Kyneton 151st Agricultural Show
It’s almost time for the 2011 Kyneton Agricultural Show and this year’s event will be a fun filled time with amazing new attractions and entertainment. The Show atmosphere is always to be enjoyed with all the family and will be filled with great times of fun, excitement, rides, amusements and discovery.
The 151st Show will kick off with the ever popular carnival on Friday Night, November 18th. An enormous variety of utes will be on display for the Great Show Ute Muster, with some great prizes on offer. You will see some fantastic talent in the finals for the Kyneton’s Show Idol with a special performance by quest judge Darryl Cotton. All the fun and fanfare begins at 6pm and the evening will be topped off with one of the most spectacular fireworks displays the town has to offer.
The fun doesn’t stop there. On Saturday November 19th the districts finest animals will be on show with cattle, horses, poultry, rabbits, sheep and the Championship Dog Show; which is the biggest dog show outside of Melbourne. There will also be a new Dairy Goat demonstration display, so come and see the goats being milked and find out what the milk is then used for, including yogurt, cream, butter, soap and paint. If you are lucky, you may also see the milk being turned into yummy cheese.
The kids will be kept entertained with Pony Rides, Kids Pet Parade and the ever popular Animal Nursery with Farmer Darryl in the huge rustic barn. You will be welcomed by all sorts of animals of every shape, size and colour with demonstrations including Hand Milking, Wool Spinning and Sheep Shearing. Let’s not forget the judging of Miss Tiny Tot, Showgirl and Master Show Boy. The great Kids Tent is where the ‘littlies’ can be amused Free for hours with face painting, making wooden toys, badge making, Dan the Magic Man and much much more.
The New Junior Master Cook Off will be where you can see teams from local schools participate in cook-off’s throughout the day. There will be a number of different sections ranging from school entries to individuals for the juniors. See the qualified chefs judge the teams on preparation, presentation, taste and clean up, with the winning team honoured by being ‘Master Cook’ for their year level. For the younger ones, why not try decorating a cup cake and then take it home for dessert.
Maybe the Snakes and Birds of Prey displays & talks might be what you are after. Back by popular demand are the small dog races, Kyneton’s biggest egg toss, miniature steam locomotives with steam train rides and the flying fox. You will be enjoying all these activities to the sounds of some of our best local bands.
The Country Kitchen Marquee was a huge success last year and will show case the districts finest food we have to offer. The marquee includes displays and produce for sale along with talks, demonstrations and master classes. Learn from locals about sausage making, butchery techniques, genuine organic sour dough, kitchen gardens and much, much more.
Check out the Gingerbread House display for hands on demonstrations of the cooking of old. See how it was done in the early days with the processes of wheat to flour to Gingerbread men and taste testing of course. There will be a Sustainability marquee on talks on urban and agricultural sustainability including bio-security, maintaining farming resources and re-establishing the natural environment and sustainability energy options. Experts will be on hand to answer questions.
The Scouts Tent is where everyone can get involved with activities including Slime making, Plaster Painting, Origami and Games. If you get a little worn out by all these wonderful activities catch the Lions Club train for a ride around the show. Drop in to the Watts Pavilion and see the exhibits from very talented locals - Arts and Crafts, Photography, Horticulture, Home Produce, Needlework and more. The Ag Art exhibition and Baling Twine competition are also a big hit with show goers of all ages.
The rides and amusements will be operating all day and be sure to get your show bags including the Treasure Hunt Show Bag. Follow the Treasure Trial around the show grounds seeing all the exhibitions and receiving a prize at each stop, which includes lunch of a drink and BBQ sausage.
